Morning at the Mill

Morning at the Mill, Plein Air Work ONLY
Morning at the Mill
This was painted on location in late October. The air was chilly, but not frosty. I am painting along the road that winds its way down along a dry creek bed into the tiny town of Welch built upon the banks of the Cannon River. The rising sun filled the opposite bank of the river, but it would be a while before it made its way into town. I loved the light skipping across the street, into the porch of the mill, and filling the thinning bows of fall color. Designing the painting around the interesting architecture of the mill, was as challenging as it was enjoyable. At least as many leaves were on the ground as in the trees, and they reflected a glow back up into the scene.
