Mustang Island is a 30 mile long barrier island made of sand on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico near Corpus Christi and until a channel was reopened, was indistinguishable from its now neighbor, Padre Island, directly to its south. The island, while developed, still has the benefit of the open beach law which gives citizens of Texas permanent rights to access all texas beaches. People enjoy it to swim, surf, fish, beachcomber, camp, and to enjoy the “oceanic feeling” one gets when in the presence of seawater.
