“Hillbilly Hilton” was created in Plein air at the Tree House Cafe in Magnolia, Texas.
I was driving around looking for places to paint and happened upon this incredible scene. It looked deserted and there was a gate that denied me access but after a little looking, and a call to the number listed on the ‘Restaurant for Sale’ sign I found a way in.
The path from my car to the place where the fence ended was well worn over the course of the two afternoons I spent painting here. I couldn’t help myself! Someone had spent a lot of time creating the charming world that I’d discovered on farm to market road 1488.
It wasn’t long before people stopped to see what was going on. Over the course of conversation I discovered that the owners of this delightful place were on vacation. Once a year, the week of Labor Day they close.
With this new knowledge I was able to inform the hungry patrons who stopped by for their favorite daily specials, that come Monday, it would be business as usual at The Tree House Cafe.
This delightful destination spot has been featured on the Local News Station, ABC 13, and today I learned why. I went back to the formerly deserted spot to discover the parking lot full of cars! A little less scenic but wonderful to see.
I followed the tree lined path to discover the world that Brent and Terryl Scott have created and enjoyed a delicious three egg, veggie omelet with delectable, crispy hash browns and amazing service.
