While visiting the Santa Paula Airport in historic Santa Paula, California one day looking for inspiration for my series "Santa Paula Sojourn," I saw this plane and the ones behind it glowing and it made me contemplate my fear of flying ever since 9/11 and how much I actually prefer small planes where I can easily see out of the windows. I loved the composition I saw and the cooler light so I did a sketch or two and ran back to my studio to start this piece.
