Hillsdale in Fall

A classic downtown Hillsdale Fall Scene, completed completely plein air in watercolor. The view is seen from the steps away from the courthouse, and a block away from my home. The changing leaves carry a listless air of sentimentalism and memories of all that has happened within this view—picking up a marriage license, walking after dinners, and driving past this steeple in the afternoon shadows just after getting engaged. The bright leaves, characteristic of Michigan, are nothing short of striking as they frame the small town church I've walked by a thousand times. I sat on a nearby bench and contemplated the quiet life my husband and I live here with such gratitude in every stroke.
